Is Google Ads worth it for a construction company in Portugal?
Short answer
Yes, if three conditions are met: the company has capacity for more jobs, replies to enquiries the same day and measures every contact. In our 2026 data, a quote request cost construction firms in Portugal €14.28 on average.

Search ads show your company to people who are looking for the service right now. It is the traffic closest to a quote request that exists online. The question is not whether it works, but whether the maths works for your company.
A worked example, to adjust to your own numbers: if you close one job in every five quotes, you need about five enquiries per job. At the average cost in our sample for construction firms (€14.28), that is around €71 of advertising per job won. If the margin on an average job is well above that, the ads pay for themselves.
It is not worth it when your calendar is already full, when the website has no visible WhatsApp on mobile, when nobody replies the same day, or when there is no way to tell which enquiries came from the ads. In those cases, money is better spent fixing that first.

When it is worth it
01
You have capacity
Ads bring enquiries quickly. If you cannot take on more work in the coming months, wait.
02
You reply the same day
People asking for a quote contact several companies. The first to reply has the edge.
03
You measure every request
WhatsApp and phone clicks tracked as conversions. Without that, you are deciding blind.
04
You cut what does not work
Negative keywords (jobs, courses, materials) and areas outside where you work, from day one.
Do the maths before you start
- Average margin on a job (what is left after materials and labour)
- How many quotes you close out of ten
- Reference cost per request: €14.28 for construction, 2026
- Monthly budget = requests you want × cost per request
- Review at 60 and 90 days, with requests and jobs won
How to start without wasting money
Pick 2 or 3 services
The ones with the best margin that you actually want to do. One ad per service.
A realistic area
The municipalities you can reach without losing the day on the road.
Measure to the request
WhatsApp, phone and form tracked before you spend the first euro.
Review and decide
After 60–90 days: cost per request, requests that became jobs and what to cut.
Frequently asked questions
How much does a Google Ads click cost for construction firms in Portugal?
€1.45 on average across the 4 construction firms in our sample, between 24 July and 21 October 2026. Source: High Level Marketing, 8 Google Ads accounts of small construction and home-service businesses in Portugal, 24 July–21 October 2026.
How many clicks does it take to get a quote request?
In construction, about ten: 10.2% of clicks became a request. Across all 8 accounts, about eight.
Google Ads or SEO?
Ads bring enquiries now; SEO and the Google profile take longer but are not paid per click. For most construction firms the answer is both, starting with the Google profile.
Can I run the ads myself?
You can. The costliest mistakes are areas that are too wide, keywords without negatives and not tracking WhatsApp. If you do it yourself, start with those three.
